Saw this on the FAA Field Gun Website this week.
John “Taff” Hale’s funeral will take place at Bournemouth Crematorium on Thursday 6th July at 1345hrs British Railway Time (according to Jock Scott).
During the war Taff served on MTB’s as a Petty Officer Seaman. On completion of hostilities he transferred to the FAA as a PO Handler and eventually made Chief.
Taff was an accomplished Air Command Rugby Player. He retired from the Pusser in the late 60’s and ran his own driving school.
- RIP Shipmate.

Yes, Taff was the CPO on the Deck of the Centaur on her fourth and last Commission. He was affectionately known by all as “Zip” (never to his face of course) It was his way of telling you to shut up if you were still talking after you had nothing left to say. Didn't suffer fools lightly, a straight talking, no nonsense, Rugby loving, old fashioned Chief. All Barrier exercises were done like Field Gun Crew runs. Brings back pleasant memories, he was a good sort.
- RIP Shipmate.
