What a character we have just lost.
Brings back memories from the Hermes in the early seventies, Ringbolt,
Bill Bailey and Chris Billingham, what a run ashore.

I first met Chris in ‘65 on Ark, when we
did a far east commission. Remained friends throughout my time in the
mob until I left in ‘85. I have many fond memories of him and of the
many runs ashore we had. A real character who will be very much missed,
never to be replaced. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.

You never had a bollocking until you had
one from Chris. Got me through most of my courses. He was a great source
of humour and will never be replaced!

First met Chris in 1973 whilst I was
still at school stayed with him for six weeks and Chris convinced
me to become a Handler instead of a Chef, best move I ever made! Thanks
Chris, gone but never forgotten.

I first worked with and got to know Chris
when he was the Section CPO at the Aircraft Handling Section, I was his
understudy as the AHO! It has already been said but it stands
reiteration, he gave the best bollocking I have ever heard. That said,
they always produced the desired results and dug many a potential
failure out of the guano and back onto the desired career path. Chris
was also a great social companion and I always sought the company of he
and his wife at the Wardroom/WOCPO Mess Cocktail Parties. You are fondly
remembered as a friend and valued colleague - give ‘em stick on the
other side shipmate.
